These Terms of Use govern your use of the Safe & Informed mobile application (the "App") and website at https://www.safeandinformed.com, operated by SAFE AND INFORMED S.R.L. ("Safe & Informed", "we", "us"), company number (CUI) 55462821, with registered office at Aleea Slt. Adrian Cârstea 13, Bl. 37, Sc. 2, Et. 8, Ap. 141, Sector 3, Bucharest 031838, Romania. You can reach us at [email protected] or +40 746 447 444. By using the App you agree to these Terms. The Services are intended for users who are at least 16 years old; by using them, you confirm that you are at least 16, or that you use them with the consent and under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian, and we do not knowingly enter into these Terms with anyone below that age. We will notify you of changes to these Terms through a notice in the App.
Safe & Informed is an audio-first news reader for iOS and Android. You add your own RSS sources and the App reads them on screen or plays them aloud, hands-free, including in the car through CarPlay and Android Auto. The App offers a free tier with the system voice and advertising, an ad-free tier, and a Pro subscription that adds AI-powered summaries and a natural AI voice. The App does not host, select or curate news; you choose and control your own sources. On the free tier, advertisements are provided through Google AdMob; displaying them involves the processing of personal data, including information collected and shared with Google to show ads and prevent fraud, as described in our Privacy Policy, and we ask for your consent in the App before the advertising component accesses your device.
You agree to use the App lawfully. You are responsible for the sources you add and for ensuring that your use of them complies with each source’s terms and applicable copyright. You agree not to use the App for any unlawful purpose, not to interfere with or abuse the service, and not to attempt to access it by unauthorised means.
Subscriptions and purchases are made through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Prices are shown and charged in your local currency, and any applicable value added tax is handled by the store within the payment flow. Payment and card details are handled by the store; we do not see your card data.
Paid plans are offered as subscriptions that renew automatically unless cancelled. You can manage, upgrade or cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple App Store or Google Play account settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Billing and renewals are handled by the store.
AI-voice credits. The Pro subscription includes a monthly allowance of AI-voice plays that resets on the first day of each calendar month; unused monthly plays do not carry over. You may also purchase additional AI-voice credits as one-time top-up packs. Purchased credits do not expire. AI-voice credits, including purchased credits, can be used only while you have an active Pro subscription; if your subscription ends, purchased credits remain on your balance and can be used again when you resubscribe. Monthly credits are always used before purchased credits, so a purchased pack is only drawn upon once the monthly allowance is exhausted. Credits are consumed for newly generated AI audio only; replays from cache, technical failures and system-voice fallbacks do not consume credits. Credits have no cash value, are non-transferable and non-refundable except as required by applicable law or the app store's refund policy. If we permanently discontinue the service, unused credits can no longer be used; any refunds are handled in accordance with applicable law and the app store's refund policy.
Referral programme. Pro subscribers receive an invite code. When a person who has never had a Pro subscription subscribes using that code, the inviter receives 50 AI-voice credits for a monthly plan or 250 for a yearly plan. These credits are added to the purchased-credits balance and follow its rules. If the invited subscription is refunded or revoked, the credits are taken back: in full for a monthly plan, and for a yearly plan 20 credits for each month not used, counted from 240. Rewards are limited to 20 per 30 days per inviter and to one per invited person, and cannot be exchanged for money. We may change or end the programme at any time; credits already granted are not affected.
Refunds are handled by Apple and Google under their own refund policies; you can request a refund through your store account. If you are a consumer in the European Union, you have a statutory right of withdrawal within 14 days of purchasing a digital service. Because our paid features are made available immediately, this right does not apply where, at the moment of purchase through the store, you have given your express prior consent to immediate performance and acknowledged that you thereby lose the right of withdrawal. Nothing in these Terms limits your mandatory rights as a consumer.
On the Pro plan, the App can generate summaries and read articles with a synthetic voice. This output is provided for your personal use only; you may not record, redistribute, rebroadcast or publicly perform it. The source publication is attributed wherever a summary or reading appears, and all AI output is visibly marked as AI-generated. AI summaries and narration may contain inaccuracies and should not be relied on as a complete or authoritative source of information. Only text that a publication makes publicly available in its feed is processed; content behind a paywall is not.
The App is a neutral technical tool through which you access sources that you choose yourself. We do not own, host, control or endorse the content of those sources, and we are not responsible for its accuracy, legality or availability. You are solely responsible for the sources you add and for complying with their terms and with applicable copyright.
The App, its software, design and trademarks belong to us or our licensors and are protected by law. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to use the App for its intended purpose, subject to these Terms.
You agree not to copy, modify, reverse engineer or attempt to derive the source code of the App except as permitted by law; not to use it to build a competing product; not to use automated means to abuse or overload the service; and not to add or share sources that infringe intellectual property rights or contain unlawful material.
We may change, suspend or discontinue features at any time. Some features, including the AI functions, rely on third-party providers and may vary in availability, timeliness and quality; we do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
To the extent permitted by law, the App is provided on an "as is" basis. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability where it may not be excluded or limited under applicable law, including your mandatory rights as a consumer and liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
The App is designed to be used hands-free, including through CarPlay and Android Auto. You are solely responsible for operating your vehicle safely and for complying with all traffic laws. Do not interact with the App while driving in any way that distracts you.
These Terms are governed by the laws of Romania. If you are a consumer with habitual residence in the European Union, you also enjoy the protection of the mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence. Any dispute may be brought before the competent courts of Bucharest, Romania, without depriving you, as a consumer, of the right to bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence.
