How the Kreel browser extension handles information — written to reflect exactly how Kreel works.
Kreel (the “Extension”) is a browser extension published by Safe and Informed S.R.L., a company incorporated in Romania (“Safe & Informed”, “we”, “us”, “our”).
This Privacy Policy explains how the Extension handles information. It is written to reflect exactly how Kreel works.
Kreel does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data. Everything the Extension does happens locally, inside your own browser. We (Safe and Informed S.R.L.) never receive your browsing data, the feeds you collect, or any other information from the Extension. There are no accounts, no analytics, no tracking, no advertising, and no cookies.
This Policy applies only to the Kreel browser extension. It does not apply to the Safe & Informed application or website, or to any third-party websites or feeds you access through your browser, each of which is governed by its own terms and privacy policy.
While a capture session is active, Kreel detects RSS/Atom feeds on the web pages you visit, stores the feeds you collect in a local “basket”, and lets you export the feeds you select as an Excel (.xlsx) or OPML file, or copy their URLs. All of this is performed locally on your device.
Kreel stores the following in your browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local), on your device only:
kreel_basket): for each feed you collect — the feed URL, its title, the source/site, the feed type (RSS/Atom), and the date it was found.kreel_session): whether capture is active and the selected capture duration. This data:
The Extension does not use storage.sync and does not synchronise any data across devices or accounts.
We do not collect, receive, store, or have access to: your identity, email, IP address, browsing history, page content, the feeds you collect, analytics or usage statistics, crash reports, advertising identifiers, or any other personal data. Kreel contains no analytics, telemetry, advertising, tracking, or “phone-home” code of any kind.
To confirm that a candidate address is a genuine feed before adding it to your basket, the Extension may send a single, standard HTTP GET request to that feed URL. Please note:
credentials: "omit"), with a short timeout, and are not retried aggressively;Feeds explicitly declared by a website (via <link rel="alternate">) are added without any network request.
| Permission | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
storage | To keep your feed basket and capture settings on your device. |
scripting | To read feed information from a page, only while capture is active. Nothing runs when capture is off. |
tabs | To know the current page so capture can operate on it. |
activeTab | For “current page only” capture — a one-shot scan of the tab you are viewing when you click, without broad access to other sites. |
<all_urls> (optional) | Not requested at install. Only when you start a continuous capture does the Extension ask your browser for this access, so it can detect feeds on the sites you visit and validate candidate feed URLs. It is not used to read, collect, or transmit the content of the pages you visit beyond the feed information described above. If you decline, continuous capture simply does not run. |
Because the Extension processes information exclusively on your device and transmits nothing to us, Safe and Informed S.R.L. does not act as a data controller or as a data processor for any personal data through the Extension. We do not receive, access, or determine the means or purposes of processing any personal data in connection with the Extension. You remain in sole control of the data stored locally by Kreel.
Any information you choose to collect locally (for example a feed address that happens to relate to an individual) is processed on your own device, at your initiative, and — where you use Kreel for your own personal or household purposes — falls outside the scope of the GDPR under Article 2(2)(c). Requests the Extension makes to validate feed URLs go directly from your browser to the relevant third-party websites, which may see standard request metadata (such as your IP address) under their own privacy policies; that data is never sent to, or collected by, Safe and Informed S.R.L.
To the limited extent that any processing on your device could involve personal data, it is carried out solely at your initiative and under your control, in order to provide the functionality you requested (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR — performance of the service you request; and/or Article 6(1)(f) GDPR — our legitimate interest in providing a functioning tool). We do not rely on this to process data on our own systems, because no such processing occurs.
We do not sell, rent, trade, or share any user data, because we do not have any. For the purposes of the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) and similar laws: we do not sell or share personal information.
Data stored by the Extension stays on your device until you remove it. You can delete any feed from the basket, empty the basket entirely from within the Extension, or uninstall the Extension — uninstalling removes all data Kreel has stored locally.
None. No data is transferred anywhere, because no data leaves your device.
The Extension is not directed to children. It is intended for users aged 13 and over (16 in jurisdictions where that is the applicable digital-consent age). We do not knowingly collect any information from children — indeed, we do not collect information from anyone.
Because the Extension keeps data only in your browser's local storage and transmits nothing to us, the primary protection for that data is the security of your own device and browser profile. The Extension adds no remote attack surface of its own.
The feeds and websites you access using Kreel are operated by third parties and are subject to their own terms of service and privacy policies. We are not responsible for their content, availability, or practices.
If you operate a website and do not want Kreel to detect or collect feeds from it, you may request exclusion as described in the Terms of Use (section “Website operator opt-out”) by emailing [email protected].
Under the GDPR and Romanian data-protection law you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection regarding your personal data. Because Kreel keeps your data only on your device and we hold none of it, you can exercise these directly — by viewing, editing, deleting, or clearing the data within the Extension, or by uninstalling it. If you have any question, contact us at [email protected].
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Romanian supervisory authority, the National Supervisory Authority for Personal Data Processing (ANSPDCP, dataprotection.ro).
We may update this Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date above will change accordingly, and the current version will always be available at its published URL. Material changes will be reflected in the Extension's store listing.
